When the Comments are Better than the Post: The Curious Case of Rainbow Rotis

Instagram is a bizarre marketplace of human ambition. A place where people turn everything into content—workouts, pets, emotional breakdowns, and, of course, food.

And today, we have found a true gem in the culinary section: a beautiful Indian lady who has taken the humble wheat roti and transformed it into a psychedelic art project.

The Post: “Rainbow Rotis – Because Brown is Too Boring”

The video starts normally enough. A clean kitchen, soft Indian instrumental music playing in the background, and a gentle, confident voice explaining the benefits of colorful, all-natural rotis.

Beetroot for red. Carrot for orange. Tomato for deeper orange. Methi for green. Spinach for a different green. Blue pea flower for purple. Turmeric for yellow.

She kneads each dough like a professional, rolls them out with expertise, and then—

BAM.

The tawa is now filled with what looks like a rainbow got into a street fight. A lineup of chapatis so unnaturally vibrant they look like they belong in a kids’ art competition rather than a dinner plate.

Instagram, as expected, went wild. Here are the 10 best comments under this masterpiece.

1. The Brutal First Impression

Comment: “Sister, are we eating food or Holi powder?”

Me: Okay, but that red roti does look suspiciously like gulal.

The Cynic: One bite and you’re ready for festival season.

2. The Cultural Violation

Comment: “My ancestors are weeping in the afterlife.”

Me: This feels personal.

The Cynic: Somewhere, a paratha just set itself on fire in protest.

3. The “Please Stop Innovating” Plea

Comment: “Madam, atta was fine as it was. No one asked for this.”

Me: Creativity should be encouraged.

The Cynic: Not when it results in edible crayons.

4. The Misidentification

Comment: “Thought this was Play-Doh chapati. Almost called Mattel for a collab.”

Me: To be fair, that purple one does look concerning.

The Cynic: ‘Limited Edition Barbie Roti Set’ incoming.

5. The Existential Crisis

Comment: “Why does my dinner look like an Olympic logo?”

Me: Now that you mention it…

The Cynic: If you roll them together, you might unlock the 5th dimension.

6. The Honest Reaction

Comment: “This looks like something that will get me permanently banned from my grandma’s kitchen.”

Me: Nani doesn’t play when it comes to food traditions.

The Cynic: Nani has lived long enough to see civilization decline, and this proves it.

7. The Harsh Scientific Analysis

Comment: “Madam, there is a reason wheat is brown. It’s called ‘being edible.’”

Me: Technically, they are still wheat.

The Cynic: But at what cost?

8. The Accidental Compliment

Comment: “This belongs in an art gallery, not my stomach.”

Me: Food is art!

The Cynic: Not when it makes you question your life choices.

9. The Deep Conspiracy Theory

Comment: “These look like expired Pokémon cards. What’s really going on here?”

Me: Sir, this is a food post.

The Cynic: No, this is an intervention.

10. The Grand Conclusion

Comment: “Respectfully, my stomach has left the chat.”

Me: They do say we eat with our eyes first. The Cynic: And my eyes are full.

Final Thoughts

Instagram is an infinite playground of unnecessary creativity. Some experiments work. Some… break the very fabric of Indian cuisine.

I, as always, try to find reason in it. The Cynic Upstairs? He’s just here to watch the madness unfold.

Would I try these rainbow rotis? Probably.

Would I enjoy them? That’s a question I’m not brave enough to answer.

What’s the wildest food experiment you’ve seen? Drop it below—oh wait, this isn’t Instagram. Well, carry on.
