Me, The Five-Star Bathtub & The Cynic Upstairs

I sit in a massive, marble-lined five-star bathtub, submerged in water infused with fancy bath salts that smell like wealth, regret, and lavender.

A tiny wooden tray floats beside me, holding a glass of wine, a book I’ll never read, and a phone I shouldn’t be using near water.

The Cynic Upstairs lounges on the other side of the tub, smirking. “So, this is what luxury feels like?”

Phase 1: The ‘Is This Really Relaxing?’ Moment

I close my eyes, letting the warmth soak into my skin, waiting for that promised ‘spa-like experience’ that luxury hotels advertise.

But instead, my brain keeps running like a stock market ticker.

  • Did I lock my room?
  • Am I the only one who finds it weird to bathe in a place thousands of strangers have also bathed?
  • Is the water level rising? Am I about to flood the suite?

The Cynic Upstairs chuckles. “Ah, the eternal human paradox—wanting relaxation but overthinking everything.”

Phase 2: The Jet Button Gamble

I spot the button that activates the jacuzzi jets.

A moment of hesitation.

Pressing it could either lead to bliss… or disaster.

I press.

The tub explodes into violent bubbles, attacking me from all sides.

The Cynic Upstairs cackles. “Congratulations, you just turned your luxury bath into a washing machine.”

I flail, trying to adjust the settings, but the button refuses to cooperate. Either it’s a gentle stream or full-blown tsunami—no in-between.

Phase 3: The Overpriced Hotel Bath Products Experiment

I grab the tiny hotel-branded bottle of bubble bath, labeled in French to justify the ₹1000 price tag.

I pour just a little.

Nothing.

I pour a bit more.

Still nothing.

Frustrated, I dump the entire bottle in.

Five minutes later, the bubbles have staged a coup.

The entire tub overflows with foam, spilling onto the bathroom floor like a disaster movie.

The Cynic Upstairs sighs. “You’ve successfully turned your five-star suite into a laundromat.”

Phase 4: The ‘Am I Too Hot or Too Cold?’ Struggle

At first, the water is heavenly warm.

But then, it starts cooling down.

I turn the hot water tap on, but now it’s too hot.

I add cold. Too cold.

I try to balance it. Impossible.

For the next ten minutes, I alternate between freezing and boiling, like a dumpling in a badly managed soup.

The Cynic Upstairs watches in amusement. “Ah yes, the true five-star experience—fighting temperature control in a ₹20,000-a-night suite.”

Phase 5: The Existential Crisis in Luxury

I finally settle in, letting the water consume me, staring at the ceiling like a philosopher.

  • What am I doing with my life?
  • Why does luxury feel so… pointless after five minutes?
  • If I post this on Instagram, will people think I’m sophisticated?

The Cynic Upstairs raises an eyebrow. “See? Even in a bathtub, your brain refuses to shut up.”

Phase 6: The Unfortunate Exit Strategy

I decide I’m done.

I try to gracefully step out of the tub.

I fail.

The wet floor betrays me.

I slip, landing half-naked, covered in bubbles, with the elegance of a fish dropped from a height.

The Cynic Upstairs wipes a tear of laughter. “Ah yes, the grand conclusion—every five-star bath ends in mild injury and self-loathing.”

Final Thoughts

I wrap myself in a hotel bathrobe that’s softer than my life choices.

I glance back at the disaster zone of bubbles, water spills, and my fragile dignity.

The Cynic Upstairs smirks. “So, did you feel like royalty?”

I sigh, taking a sip of now-lukewarm wine.

“Luxury is exhausting.”
